Obituary: Guadalupe C. Uribe Sr.

Guadalupe C. Uribe Sr., 77, passed away peacefully August 12th, surrounded by his loving family. He was born to Rufino and Juanita Uribe on December 12th, 1938 in Clarkdale Arizona, where he attended school. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1956 to 1960. In 1967 he married the love of his life, Lydia Zuniga Uribe, and they were blessed with three beautiful children.

In his early years, he worked for the Clarkdale Dairy, owned by the Tavasci family. He became a printer for the Verde Independent in the years when he had to transport the information for the newspaper to Phoenix, where it was printed.

He was employed at Mingus Union High School as a custodian, bus driver and truant officer until his retirement. He went far above and beyond the call of duty at Mingus, impacting young lives for the better.

He was a sponsor for the Native American Club. He was a keen observer who zeroed in on where help was needed, whether it was an encouraging word, organizing a fundraiser, or quietly buying a kid a much needed pair of shoes.

His countless acts of kindness and generosity extended to many in the community, of all ages and from all walks of life.

He loved people, loved to talk, and had an encyclopedic knowledge of local families and endless stories of the Verde Valley, all told in his humorous manner.

He was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and belonged to the Knights of Columbus.

He is preceded in death by his brother Cristobal, sister Narci and three grandchildren Kendal, Caleb and Guadalupe. He is survived by his wife Lydia, sons Guadalupe (Cindy) and Miguel (Patricia), daughter Laura (Steve), sisters Inez, Juanita and Florence, and grandchildren Faith, Cruz, Emma and Sean.

Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. with Rosary at 10:30 a.m. Funeral Mass immediately following at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church 700 N. Bill Gray Rd, Cottonwood, AZ 86326, Saturday August 20th. He will be laid to rest at Valley View Cemetery, and a reception will follow at the Jerome Elks Lodge in Clarkdale.
