The Christmas Gift presented by Potter’s Hand Dec. 9-11
Potter’s Hand Productions (PHP) continue their 12th annual tradition of presenting a free Community Event, which is part of Holiday Central Sedona.
This year’s production is a newly-scripted and relevant holiday tale, The Christmas Gift. This joyful and touching musical is family-friendly and not to be missed!
The storyline of The Christmas Gift is a re-telling of the real meaning of Christmas, which time-travels between ancient days and today. The cast and crew include talented actors and singers from Sedona and the entire Verde Valley.
Three young locals sing and act the main children’s roles: Analiz (13) and Amber (10) from Sedona, and Lydia (7) from Camp Verde.
Three adults sing and act the roles of the girls’ mentors: Gale from Sedona, plus Gina and Elizabeth from Camp Verde.
The public is invited to come and delight in Wise Men dressed in spectacular costumes, Roman Soldiers, plus a live Nativity.
The Christmas Gift will be performed indoors at Historic Wayside Bible Chapel, 401 N SR 89A, Uptown Sedona 86336. Free parking near the main entrance is behind the building by following The Christmas Gift signs.
Performances are Friday, December 9 at 7 pm; Saturday December 10 at 4 pm and again at 7 pm; Sunday, December 11 at 4 pm only.
All performances last 90 minutes. Limited free seating is available, or Reserved Row Seats are available for a donation of $5 per person, at the door only, from one hour prior to each performance.
There will be drawings for valuable gifts prior to each performance.
Tickets for the Gift Drawing are available at each performance for a donation of $5 per ticket. 100 percent of the funds raised are used to produce these free community events. Bring our Money in the Mail ad and receive a free Gift Drawing ticket!

Verde Valley Arts Festival Dec. 9-10
The Verde Valley Arts Festival is a new juried art show hosted by the Verde Valley Arts Council, which is a collaboration of the Cottonwood Economic Development Council, the AZ Commission on the Arts, the Old Town Center for the Arts, the Old Town Association, the Sedona Arts Council, the Sedona Visual Artist’s Coalition, and the Old Jerome High School Artist Galleries and Studios, the Manheim Gallery and numerous other local arts organizations, galleries and artists.
The 2 day event on December 9 - 10 will feature “Meet the Artist” receptions on Friday evening, followed by the festival itself on Saturday.
The inaugural event will be held outside at the Old Town Center for the Arts in Cottonwood and will feature fine arts and selected fine crafts such as oil paintings, acrylics, watercolors, pastels, charcoals,and mixed media sculpture, pottery, jewelry, and fiber arts. Other mediums can include bronzes of all sizes, glass, metal creations, jewelry, pottery, wood-working, basketry and photography. Live music, poetry and short theatrical performances will take place on the outdoor stage throughout the day, followed by the presentation of juried show awards and a holiday concert with the Bresnan Blues Band inside the Old Town Center for the Arts at 7:00PM on Saturday evening.
Local restaurants, food vendors and wineries will also be invited to participate before, during and after the festival in conjunction with 2nd Saturday. Christmas Craft Bazaar at Community Center Gym
Celebrate the Verde River inspired art of 30 Camp Verde artists on Saturday, December 10, 2016 from noon to 8:00 p.m. at the Christmas Craft Bazaar in the Community Center Gym. This is the culmination of a two-month Saturday art series, sponsored by the Town of Camp Verde with grant funds from APS and support from Wingfield Plaza. Participants included Camp Verde High School, McElhaney Studio Atelier, Verde Valley muralist Joan Bourque, and local woodworkers, mosaic artists, jewelers, and painters, including owners of Moscato Italian Restaurant, Rick’s Picks, and Town Staff. The final result is a 30-canvas mobile mural for beautifying local establishments to inspire future collaborative art initiatives. ‘Chat ‘n’ Chew’ with Dr. Marta
Dr. Marta Adelsman, Life Coach in Communication and Consciousness, will lead a short discussion entitled “Holiday Gatherings: A Breeding Ground for Communication Collisions” at Jerona Café in Cottonwood on Saturday, Dec. 17th, from 10:30-11:30 AM.
With the stress of holiday busy-ness, keeping family conversations full of peace and goodwill can prove challenging. This short “Chat-‘n’-Chew” class allows participants to drop in for a break from holiday shopping to warm up with a hot drink and to receive tips from a communication expert. They will also have a chance to ask questions about how to handle specific issues they anticipate in their holiday relating.

Christmas carols at Clarkdale Park Dec. 16
Join us on Friday, December 16th for this festive community sing-along of all your favorite carols of the season! Gather in front of the lighted historic gazebo in the Clarkdale Town Park. Caroling will begin at 6:00 p.m. Song lyrics and hot chocolate to warm your bones will be provided. Invite your family, friends, and neighbors to attend and be a part of this holiday tradition! Dress according to the weather and bring a flashlight to help read the lyrics.
The Town Park is located in the center of the town’s historic district at 1001 Main Street, between 10th and 11th Streets.

Free Mental Health First Aid Class December 9
The Mental Health Coalition Verde Valley and Spectrum Healthcare Group are offering a full-day session on Mental Health First Aid training on Friday, December 9, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Christ Lutheran Church, 25 Chapel Road, Sedona. The 8-hour training is free, open to the public, and each person receives a certificate of completion.
According to Barbara Litrell, President of the Coalition, “This is one of six trainings this year to achieve over 100 community members trained to recognize the signs of addiction and mental illness and the 5 step action plan to assess a situation and offer assistance.
The National Alliance on Mental Illness reports that approximately 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. experiences mental illness in a given year. Fear and stigma can often blind us to the signs of mental illness and paralyze us just when we could be of help to another person. Mental Health First Aid teaches members of the public how to respond in a mental health emergency.
Professional instructors from Spectrum Healthcare Group teach the course, which includes lecture, videos, group activities and reference materials. The course covers first aid for developing mental health problems including depression, anxiety disorders, psychosis, substance use disorders, and eating disorders. The course also teaches about local resources and where to turn for help. Spectrum Healthcare Group has trained over 600 community members in Mental Health First Aid.

Workshop teaches body weight management
The ECO Learning Center will be hosting their December Natural Health Workshop on “Body Weight Management” on Saturday, December 17, 2016 from 9:30-11 a.m. Guests will learn how to reduce the fat and toxins that are stored in internal organs, tips to avoid empty calories and enhance nutrition, and how to recover your body’s balance point for ideal weight. This course will be led by Juniper Yang, ECO’s Director of Education, Certified Health Coach, and Program Director of the Revitalizing Detox Retreat at Sedona Mago Retreat. For over 18 years, Juniper has dedicated her life to helping people live healthier and happier lives through lifestyle, mindfulness, diet and exercise.

The Camp Verde Unified School District participates in a “Child Find” process to identify parentally placed children with disabilities attending private and home schools who may be eligible for special education or other related services. Hospice of the Pines, Second Winds Dreams host Virtual Dementia Tour
Hospice of the Pines and Second Winds Dreams are hosting the Virtual Dementia Tour® which is an individual experience through simulated dementia created for families, organizations and companies seeking to better understand the physical and mental challenges of those with dementia.
After experiencing this sensory training, you will have a greater understanding of the realities of what living with dementia is like. This unique, interactive program has been shown to improve communication and care. Learning to create a positive environment for those with dementia can only come from attempting to walk in their shoes.

Learn about Arizona Minimum Wage and Paid Sick
The Camp Verde Chamber of Commerce will host a presentation on the new Arizona Minimum Wage and Paid Sick Leave law.
The presentation will be led by Dr. Alexandria Wright, Regional Economic Development Center Director at Yavapai College. The meeting is open to the public. It will be held in the Copper Room at the Camp Verde Community Library, at 11am on Monday, December 19th. The library is located at 130 Black Bridge Road. Light refreshments will be served.

Cornville extends Farmers’ Market schedule
The Cornville Community Association is adopting an extended schedule for their Farmer’s Market. The extended schedule will begin Monday, January 16,2017. The Market will be held at Windmill Park each Monday from 2 PM until dusk.
New for 2017 is the requirement for vendors to register their booth with Edwin Zummallen by calling prior to market day. Booth space can be pre-arranged by the week or for the entire 2017 season. Interested vendors should call Edwin at 928-821-6382 for details.

Free concert at Peace Lutheran Church
Stephen Bautista, a Christian singer-songwriter, will be presenting a free concert at Peace Lutheran at 7 PM on Wednesday, December 7. It will feature music from his new Christmas CD, titled “A Wondrous Journey.” Stephen tours the country with his wife, their eight “roadschooled” children, and a cat, living in a travel trailer they pull behind a van. Peace Lutheran is located at 1450 E. Fir Street in Cottonwood.
NAWS group to meet Dec. 16
NAWS will meet on Friday, Dec 16th, a week earlier than usual, because of Christmas.
