Community is emphasis of Big Park Community School
Community -- It's not just a group of people residing in the same location, as Webster's states. Community is about coming together with common goals, energy and focus to make things happen and better the future for those who live in an area.
Big Park Community School, takes the role of "community" in our name, to heart. The community has come together to support the education of our children in the Village of Oak Creek and the surrounding area.
At Big Park Community School, we are so excited about the progress we are making toward becoming an International Baccalaureate School. Community support has made this a possibility.
We have had the support of the Vision Alliance, The Big Park Regional Community Council, The Collective Welcome Center, The Village HOA's, The VOC Nazarene Church, our PTSA (Parent Teacher Student Association), Site Council, Front Burner Media and numerous community members who have stepped forward to volunteer and donate.
The donations will fund training for all of our teachers in the philosophy and pedagogy of the International Baccalaureate, Primary Years Program (IB, PYP).
Every individual contribution has made a difference and helps us get one step closer to making it happen.
Teachers will be training this fall and implementing strategies that help students become better learners.
They are excited about the journey. Every educator wants to find ways to better engage their students and help them become life long learners.
The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a model that is known all over the world for doing just that. Our enrollment is slowly increasing as the word is spreading that we are working toward authorization as an IB school.
We are registering students at the district office, 221 Brewer Road, Sedona, AZ 86336, (928) 204-6800, until July 18th, 2016. After the 18th new registrations will be taken at Big Park Community School, 25 W. Saddlehorn Road, Sedona, AZ 86351, (928) 204-6500. Tours are available upon request.
We are grateful for this awesome community and their commitment to excellence for our children! Did you participate in the carwash, in the Weber's IGA parking lot on May 14th?
Committed people can make a whole lot of good happen when we work together. We will keep you posted about the ongoing progress we are making. In the meantime, some of our students are participating in summer opportunities like STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) camp, ESY (Extended School Year) summer school and Jump Start so that they are ready to jump right into learning, once school starts up again.
The first day of school is August 3. Plan to attend our Open House on August 2, from 2:30-4 p.m.
