VACTE board searches for interim superintendent
Original agenda suggests identity of Lamer's replacement already known
COTTONWOOD - Not so often is a board meeting's hot topic the announcement that it is time for the public to leave.
Wednesday (March 23), the Valley Academy Career and Technological Education governing board is expected to go into executive session to consider candidates for Interim Superintendent.
According to the first version of the agenda, the board may already know the identity of Lois Lamer's temporary replacement, with a personalized second-person solicitation to fill the open position
"The Governing Board may vote to convene an executive session pursuant to A.R.S. §38-431.03(A)(1) for discussion or consideration of your candidacy for the position of Interim Superintendent," stated the original March 23 agenda, received by email at 1:52 p.m. March 21 but incorrectly time-stamped 2 p.m. March 28. "In accordance with A.R.S. §38-431.03(A)(1), you have the right to request that the discussion and/or consideration of your employment occur during a public meeting, except for discussions regarding salary. It is possible that the Governing Board may invite you into the executive session for some or all of the executive session."
Attempts for clarity on that agenda were met with a revised agenda, then a second revised agenda, but no comment nor explanation.
The most up-to-date agenda now addresses the Interim Superintendent search as follows: "Discussion and possible action with regards to the consideration of candidates for the position of Interim Superintendent. The Governing Board may vote to convene in executive session, which will not be open to the public, pursuant to A.R.S. §38-431.03(A)(1) for discussion or consideration of personnel matters."
The first and second agendas also included discussion and possible action to proceed with contract negotiations. This item has been removed from the most up-to-date agenda.
Citing health issues, Lamer retired as superintendent with a letter that was accepted 4-1 at the board's March 11 meeting. When asked for a copy of Lamer's resignation, Steve Dockray, VACTE Governing Board President said "no comment."
Dockray also had "no comment" when asked which of the board members voted to not accept Lamer's resignation.
The Valley Academy Governing Board meets regularly on the fourth Wednesday of the month, at 4:30 p.m., in the District Governing Board Room at 830 S. Main St., Suite 2-G in Cottonwood.
