Brenda Zenan resigns from Mingus Union School Board
Yavapai County School Superintendent Tim Carter has announced a vacancy on the Mingus Union High School District Governing Board, due to the resignation of Mrs. Brenda Zenan, due to her family relocating to Tucson and out of the school district.
Mingus Superintendent Dr. Paul Tighe commented, "Mrs. Zenan will be missed. She was an outstanding board member and we appreciate her leadership and service to the district."
The vacancy comes during the time when candidates are being nominated for the November 2016 election. This fact combined with the proximity of the vacancy to the filing deadline for the upcoming elections, has caused Mr. Carter to announce that "he does not plan to fill the vacancy at this time".
Carter said, "Due to the timeline that filling this vacancy would require, it is in the best interest of all involved to wait until the nomination/election process is concluded to make an appointment based on the outcome of the election".
This decision may be reconsidered if circumstances warrant a review, Carter said.
The appointment, as a result of the outcome of the general election is expected to be in mid November after the canvass of election, and will be of the non-incumbent who receives the highest number of votes from the electorate. It is possible that the seat could be filled earlier, if there is only the requisite number of candidates needed for the open seats. In that case, the appointment could be made as early as mid August, if the Board of Supervisors at the request of the County School Superintendent, cancels this specific election and declares the eligible candidates appointed.
To be eligible to run for this seat, a person must be a United States citizen, be at least 18 years of age, a registered voter having lived continuously in the school district for at least one year immediately preceding taking office, possess their civil rights, and the candidate and their spouse may not work for the school district.
If an eligible person is interested in running for election to the Mingus Union High School District Governing Board, or if anyone has questions please contact Mr. Carter at 928-925-6560, or by email at Tim.Carter@yavapai.us.
