Smoky skies from wildfire

A smoldering wildfire, called the Jones Fire, located northwest of Stoneman Lake (about 30 miles south of Flagstaff), said Coconino National Forest PIO George Jozens. It was started by lightning Oct. 29.

STONEMAN LAKE – The smoke in the sky is not from a prescribed burn.

It is a smoldering wildfire, called the Jones Fire, located northwest of Stoneman Lake (about 30 miles south of Flagstaff), said Coconino National Forest PIO George Jozens. It was started by lightning Oct. 29.

Burnout operations for suppression are happening now, with firefighters on scene.

Jozens said he is expecting to hear an update shortly, and said the smoke will continue to lighten up today and the days to come.
