Linda Walker replaces Dr. Lamer on Cottonwood-Oak Creek school board
COTTONWOOD - Yavapai County School Superintendent Tim Carter has appointed Linda M. Walker to the Cottonwood Oak Creek Elementary School District Governing Board.
Walker, a resident of Cottonwood, replaces Dr. Marv Lamer, who recently resigned his position as he is relocating out of the district.
"We sincerely appreciate the valuable service Dr. Lamer provided to the School District over the years," Carter stated in a press release.
Walker's appointment is effective through Dec. 31. On Jan. 1, Walker will begin a full term on the board.
The COCSD election had been scheduled for Nov. 8, but with three candidates seeking three open seats, the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors cancelled that election and Carter appointed Walker to the board, as well as returning board members Mary Valenzuela and JoAnne Cook.
Their terms are from Jan. 1, 2017 through Dec. 31, 2020.
Said Carter, leaving an opening on the board through Dec. 31 "when we already had someone" was not an option.
"It's just not reasonable to do that," Carter said. "The election process had identified an appropriate candidate. Why appoint a different person for three months?"
