Burglar suspect confronted by armed elderly man still sought
CORNVILLE – Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Bureau continue to seek information that would identify the suspect involved in the Sept. 17 attempted Cornville home burglary, according to a press release from Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident is still being investigated.
Around 4:30 a.m. that morning, an elderly Cornville man confronted a burglar with a handgun and ordered him to lie on the floor during a home invasion at the 5600 block of E. Whisper Ridge in Cornville, according to the release. The area is known as the Verde Santa Fe subdivision located off Cornville Road.
The suspect begged the homeowner not to shoot him, stated the release. YCSO said he then escaped through the front door when the homeowner briefly left the room to access a phone.
The homeowner, who is in his 80s, awoke to the sound of someone rummaging through cabinet drawers, according to the release. YCSO said the suspect has not been caught, and none of the victim’s property was taken.
The suspect is described in the release as a Hispanic or darker-skinned white male, in his 20s or 30s, and of average to tall height. YCSO said his head appeared to be shaven. The release said the suspect is stocky, but not fat, and spoke English clearly without an accent. YCSO said the homeowner was unable to provide further details due to the darkness.
It was determined that the point of entry was an unlocked and open front window, where the suspect removed a screen, according to the release.
YCSO urges the public to contact detective Todd Swain at 928-554-8605 or Yavapai Silent Witness at 1-800-932-3232 if they have any information. Callers to Silent Witness can remain anonymous and become eligible for a cash reward if the tip leads to an arrest based on a direct call to Silent Witness.
