Marauder swimmers, divers off to fast start
COTTONWOOD -- In her third season as Mingus Union swim coach, Gretchen Wesbrock program is finally starting to implement her training and techniques to her team.
The amazing thing is she is doing it with freshmen and sophomores. Now they expect to win as they delivered another boys team victory against Saguaro and Scottsdale Prep High Schools.
What is also impressive is that the divers are filling in a competing in swimming events as well as dive.
Many of the relay teams and swimmers have won their first two races to begin the season. This is only the second meet of the season, all the club swimming and preseason work that Wesbrock and her assistant coach have been able to do with these swimmers are starting to show up during the early part of season.
Second Victory of the season
Mingus Union boys scored 118 points vs Saguaro's 114, to Scottsdale Prep 33.
Mingus Union women trailed the Sabercats by six points and closed to within three before losing. Saguaro 129 vs Mingus 123; Scottsdale Prep 73.
Boys
Anthony Rodriguez finished in second place in the 200m freestyle.
Dallin Gordon finished first in the 50m freestyle.
Luke Ritter was third in the 50m freestyle.
Gunner Tillemans finished in first place in the 100m freestyle, to make it two weeks in a row he has won this event.
Once again, Fletch Fangman won the 100m breaststroke and dropped his time, he was third in the 100m freestyle.
Joseph Calhoon took third place in the 100m backstroke.
Boys 200 Freestyle Relay took first place: Gunner Tillemans, Joseph Calhoon, Fletch Fangman, and Dallin Gordon.
Diving
Nick Lodico finished in first place.
Girls
Skylar Mohr took first place in the 200m freestyle, and second in the 500m freestyle.
Girls 200 Medley Relay finished second.
Rylie Burke, Anissa Zorrilla, Emma Warner, and Hannah Arwine.
Girls 200 Free Relay finished in first place: Rylie Burke, Skylar Mohr, Hannah Arwine, and Emma Warner.
Rylie Burke was first in the 50m freestyle.
Hannah Arwine was first in the 100m freestyle.
Emma Grasso won in the 100m backstroke for the second time this season.
Emma Warner took first in the 200 IM and third in the 100m breast stroke.
Girls 400 Free Relay, Mingus took second place.
Anissa Zorrila, Emily Grasso, Skylar Mohr, and Erin Morley.
Diving
Autumn Stanton took second place.
"Once again it was a team effort," coach Wesbrock said, "with every athlete contributing to the team's success."
The Mingus Dive and Swim team take to the water again on Thursday, Sept. 15, at home against Bradshaw at 4 p.m.
