New golf course superintendent coming to Oakcreek Country Club
Oakcreek Country Club is proud to introduce its new golf course Superintendent, Robert Walton. Robert has worked in the golf maintenance field for the past 28 years, serving most recently for nine years at Double Arrow Golf Resort in Seeley Lake, Montana.
Under his leadership there as Head Superintendent, Double Arrow received excellent ratings for its course conditions and great putting surfaces.
Prior to that experience, Robert worked in Washington, Idaho, Wyoming, and was a project manager for the construction of a new golf course in Araras, Brazil.
The Selection Committee, headed by Cal Wood, was very impressed with his accomplishments, education, leadership-skills and personality.
With his wife, Adriana, he is excited to be moving to Sedona in December, and will be taking over the duties of Superintendent on January 1st. We look forward to his arrival and for this to be a long term relationship with VOCA and Oakcreek Country Club.
Special thanks to the Superintendent Selection Committee headed by Cal Wood, along with Heather Risk, Michelle Stoor, Jane Weinberg, Gwen Hanna, Joe Mazza, Brian Smith, and David Bill for their time and efforts over a long ten-week period in selecting our new Superintendent. We had a very impressive list of people applying for this position, with 70-plus resumes received. We feel we made a great choice that fits the needs of Oakcreek CC, taking our already well-conditioned golf course to a higher level.
In mid-November the Activities Committee sponsored a Film Night and dinner in the banquet room at the VOCA Community Center.
The sold-out event featured the showing of The Rounders, featuring Glenn Ford and Henry Fonda. The film was preceded by a short presentation by Janeen Trevillyan of the Sedona Historical Society about the making of the movie. Dinner featured a special recipe of Chuck Wagon stew.
The Activities Committee, along with Mike Smith of the Redstone Bar and Grill, are planning a New Year’s Eve party on Sunday, December 31st at 8 p.m. at the VOCA Community Center.
The cost is $25 per person. All are welcome. Please make reservations and pre-pay at the VOCA office or call 284-1820 for more information.
