Jerome Council establishes new court security fees
JEROME -- The Jerome Town Council approved an ordinance Tuesday amending the town’s mandatory court fees.
Ordinance 444 amends the town code to eliminate court enhancement fees. They will be replaced with court security fees, according to staff documents.
According to the ordinance, a $20 security fee will be mandatory for those convicted of a criminal offense, petty offense, civil offense, or placed on a court-authorized diversion program. The current enhancement fee is $27.
The fee will be used to fund the court’s security fund, according to the ordinance. Funds shall be administered solely for security purposes such as: walkthrough metal detectors, firearms training, signage, etc.
