VERDE VALLEY EDUCATOR OF THE WEEK: Brandi Phillips
Early childhood educator, United Christian School, Camp Verde
CAMP VERDE – If Brandi Phillips wasn’t in the classroom teaching her kiddos, she says would “want to work with teachers to help implement developmentally appropriate practices so each child could learn at their developmental level.”
In her ninth year as an educator – and her ninth year at Camp Verde’s United Christian School, Phillips is an early childhood educator whose favorite part of teaching is “singing with the children, getting messy with science projects, art, and cooking.”
In Phillips, United Christian School has a “caring, well-educated and organized early childhood teacher,” says Kathy Holden, the school’s principal.
“Her love for children is evident, as is her understanding of developmentally appropriate practices,” Holden says.
This year, Camp Verde United Christian School opened an additional preschool classroom, and Phillips has filled the room with “beautiful 3-year-old students,” Holden says.
“We are blessed by them and blessed to have Brandi teaching them,” Holden says.
Phillips says that she enjoys teaching so much that the only thing she dislikes is that “it makes me sad when the children graduate and move out of my classroom.”
Says Kathy Holden, principal at Camp Verde United Christian School, Phillips is “a caring, well-educated and organized early childhood education teacher.
“Her love for children is evident as is her understanding of developmentally appropriate practices,” Holden says.
“I think adults can learn many valuable life skills from children,” Phillips says. “They are easy to forgive, show compassion, love, and empathy for others.”
“I love the hands-on approach,” Phillips says. “I think children learn best when they can experience something for themselves.”
DID YOU KNOW?
Phillips says she initially thought she would work in law enforcement.
“I earned a forensic degree when my children were very small,” Phillips says. “However, I was led down a completely different path. I have always loved helping people and did not realize it would be in the form of education until I did it.”
