Leadership class gets primer on sustainability efforts

Class members of Verde Valley Leadership Class XVI and VVL alumni participated in the Regional Sustainability Leadership Development Day in September.

The day was kicked off with VVL founder Al Filardo sharing his inspirational story focusing on the importance of developing a personal vision, mission, goals, and guiding principles.

Board member and VVL alum Debbie Breitkreutz presented on water sustainability and conservation including a comprehensive tour of the wastewater treatment plant on Mingus Avenue.

Sodexo, a global organization that fully supports local communities, provided a delicious, nutritious lunch while Victoria Vita and Ben Montgomery from their organization presented the ways that Sodexo is contributing to sustaining quality of life through food recovery and waste reduction in its commitment to stop hunger.

Ralph Fobair of V’ACTE gave a perspective on sustaining our community through career and technical education.

Camp Verde’s Plowing Ahead Ranch owners Zach and Shannon Wolfe concluded the day’s presentations with an inspirational overview of their vision for sustaining farming and agriculture in the Verde Valley using innovative, holistic, and organic methods.

Zach prefers describing their philosophy of animal husbandry and agriculture as not only sustainable but also “regenerative.”

Verde Valley Leadership is committed to sustainability in continually developing its program, engaging community leaders and alumni, providing service to others in multiple ways, and supporting local young leaders through scholarship opportunities.

Verde Valley Leadership is about inspiring individuals to action through skills development and active engagement in the community.
