CV School Board, Yavapai-Apache tribal council to meet Tuesday
MIDDLE VERDE -– At 6 p.m. Tuesday, the Yavapai-Apache Nation’s tribal council and the Camp Verde School Board will meet at the Nation’s tribal council chambers, located at 2400 W. Datsi St. in Camp Verde.
The Oct. 22 meeting will be the Nation’s first opportunity to officially introduce new Tribal Council Chairperson Jon Huey and Vice Chairperson Tanya Lewis to Camp Verde’s district governing board.
Huey and Lewis were elected in the Nation’s Sept. 21 general election, as were new tribal council members Apphia Shirley and Ricardo Pacheco.
According to a draft agenda of the joint session, the Camp Verde School Board will review its Native American policies and procedures, which includes attestations and impact policies and procedures.
“The Camp Verde Unified School District will consult with local tribal officials and parents of Indian children in the planning and development of Indian policies and procedures, general education programs and activities,” according to the Camp Verde School Board’s Indian Education policies.
The Camp Verde School Board will also share its strategic initiatives and reports from the district’s school principals.
The strategic plan’s four priority points are respect, integrity, positive relationships and accountability. Those points are achieved through learning and growth, customer service, financial responsibility and infrastructure.
