Mingus Union board to review state policies
COTTONWOOD – The Mingus Union High School District governing board will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10 at the school’s library, located at 1801 E. Fir St. in Cottonwood.
Although the agenda had not been finalized as of this writing, Mingus Union District Superintendent Mike Westcott said Friday that the board will have a first read of 19 policies: ASBA Policy Advisories 651-669.
The policies include the restricted use of a portable device while operating a motor vehicle.
Arizona Revised Statute 28-914 restricts the use of portable wireless communication devices unless coupled with an earpiece or “when used in a hands-free manner.”
Other policy changes or additions include public participation at board meetings, staff ethics and conduct, staff participation in political activities, staff evaluation, instruction and training in suicide prevention and child protection/reporting child abuse.
Each August, the Arizona School Boards Association releases an advisory of education-related policies based on the state legislature’s annual sessions.
Also Tuesday, the Mingus Union School Board will consider rescheduling its next meeting from Oct. 8 to Oct. 14, Westcott said, to avoid holding a meeting during the district’s fall break.
The district’s fall break is scheduled for Oct. 7-11.
Mingus Union High School District will post a copy of the official agenda no less than 24 hours before the meeting.
The district can add, change or remove items from its draft agenda prior to the official agenda’s release no later than 24 hours prior to the meeting. For the most up-to-date agenda, visit mingusunion.com/Governing_Board.
