Clarkdale Council set to discuss transportation agreement
Ridership dipped during pandemic

CLARKDALE - There isn’t much on the agenda for Tuesday’s 3 p.m. online Clarkdale Town Council meeting.

However, one separate action item addresses a service that wasn’t utilized as much as usual this spring.

The Council, which is set to meet using zoom.us, is set to discuss the latest renewal of its annual agreement with the City of Cottonwood for Lynx and Cottonwood Area Transit services.

Tuesday’s meeting will take place at a Zoom link provided in the May 19 agenda. That can be found under the “Agendas & Minutes” tab on clarkdale.az.gov, as can the password for the meeting.

The Lynx moves riders between Cottonwood and Sedona. The Lynx connects with the Cottonwood Area Transit, or CAT, which has a loop route that runs through Clarkdale.

Ridership dropped off significantly for both the Lynx and CAT in March amid closures of businesses and offices due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, bus service between Clarkdale and Cottonwood remains a critical way for many to get to work, shopping and government offices.

The City of Cottonwood recently announced that through a state grant associated with Congress’ CARES Act, annual funding for transportation needs will be taken care of for Fiscal 2021.

Other items on the limited agenda for Tuesday’s meeting include the possible creation of a historical preservation commission.
