AZ COVID-19 infections at highest level since February

Arizona has had more than 1,000 new COVID-19 cases in five of the past six days.

The Monday morning report from the Arizona Department of Health Services shows 1,034 new cases in the past 24 hours.

That pushes the state’s daily average for July to 774 new cases each day, the highest mark seen in Arizona since February.

ADHS has documented 178 deaths so far in July.

Since testing began in January 2020, ADHS has documented 909,282 COVID-19 cases with 18,117 deaths.

Roughly 51% of Arizona’s population has now been vaccinated.

Yavapai County Update

Yavapai County reports 134 new COVID-19 cases since Friday, or just under 45 cases per day. The county has tested 126,488 residents for COVID-19 with 20,230 positive cases and 533 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.  Yavapai Regional Medical Center reports 22 COVID-19 patients, VVMC reports four, and the VA has four COVID-19 patients.

U.S. and global totals

The most recent estimates of U.S. and global cases of COVID-19 put the U.S. cumulative caseload at 34.9 million Monday morning, with the U.S. death tally at 624,746, according to worldometers.info.

More Americans have now died from COVID-19 than the death tallies from the 1957-58 Asian Flu pandemic (116,000 U.S. deaths) and the 1968 Hong Kong Flu pandemic (100,000 U.S. deaths). It still trails the death count from the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic that claimed 675,000 American lives, and at least 50 million worldwide.

AIDS claims about 13,000 U.S. lives each year.
