CLARKDALE — A bulldozer on Saturday morning, July 17, was clearing away some of the slag material from a slide at the huge slag pile near the Verde River in Clarkdale.

The slag pile, owned by Clarkdale Metals, recently experienced a material slide on its northeast slope on TAPCO Road, according to a news release by the Clarkdale Police Department on its Facebook page.

The Town, Yavapai County, Verde Valley Fire District and others are “monitoring and responding the slide. “Out of an abundance of caution, the Town recommends that river users remain ‘river left’ when approaching and traveling through the slag pile area.”

There were about three of four small sections of the slag pile facing the river that had collapsed about halfway up the pile. The slide covered part of the private road leading to the old power plant.
