Verde Heritage: 1917 – United Verde Extension Mining Company smelter construction

UVX Warehouse framework to support the brick building during September of 1917. Railroad cars were unloaded here where there was ample storage room for all the ten thousand and one things needed for a smelter of this magnitude. After the UVX closed, this industrial building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on Sept. 19, 1986. Verde Valley Senior Citizens’ Association acquired the site and building (on Sixth Street) from Yavapai County and remodeled it for their use during 2004 and 2005. (Courtesy)
