Profits up 33% at Arizona hospitals in 2020 compared to 2019

This April 23, 2020, file photo shows then-shuttered St. Luke's Medical Center as it was being prepared for reopening for a possible surge of coronavirus patients in Phoenix. Arizona hospitals overall saw huge increases in their profits last year despite - or more likely, because of - COVID-19. New figures from the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System said total profits topped $1.5 billion. That is 33 percent higher than in 2019 and far above anything reported in the past decade.
