The City of Cottonwood announced that it was closing Riverfront Park as of Monday, Sept. 13, according to a news release.
“We ask the public to not enter the main park area or softball fields during this closure,” City of Cottonwood Parks and Recreation Manager Jak Teel said in a statement. “We encourage the public to use amenities that will remain open such as the skate park, disc golf, skate rink, and other public parks such as the Cottonwood Kid’s Park and Garrison Park.

With the City of Cottonwood hosting the annual Thunder Valley Rally, Cottonwood PD announced it would be providing walking patrols, emergency response and traffic enforcement for the event.
Between 3:30 and 9:50 p.m., traffic will be allowed to “flow at its own pace” in and out of the event by 10th Street and Main Street assisted by a traffic officer, according to Cottonwood PD spokesperson Sgt. Chad Sinn on Monday.
But, at 9:50 p.m. until 10:20 p.m., no inbound traffic will be allowed into the event.
“At that time 10th Street will be structured to allow three out bound lanes,” Sinn said in a statement. “These out bound lanes will be assisted by two traffic officers who will route traffic south on Main Street and south on 10th Street and north on Main Street in accordance with the lane that the traffic is in.”
Additional traffic officers are scheduled to be placed at Main Street and Mingus Avenue to ensure traffic flows through the light and 10th Street and Mingus Avenue to assist with traffic at the southbound stop sign.
The City of Cottonwood bus and shuttle services will access the vendor parking lot through the Riverfront Reclamation access road and drop those attending the events off. The shuttle service will then proceed out of the parking lot onto Riverfront Road and back to 10th Street.
