Dine In Dine Out: Dinner and 24 movies

The best! For 28 years, the Sedona International Film Festival has brought us a variety of films that has entertained us, educated us, made us sensitive to the needs and wants of others and broadened our horizon.

This year the SIFF box office, film screeners and volunteers outdid themselves. Three films messages were about food: “Delicious,” “Peace by Chocolate” and “Pie in the Sky.”

“Delicious” told us how the first public restaurant came about in France (1789), just before the French Revolution. “Peace by Chocolate” was about a refugee’s remaking of his chocolate business. “Pie in the Sky” was about a mother and daughter working through family issues while passing along the family recipe (see inset).

The Dunnery was again fortunate to Dine Out both at restaurants and at the theater. Scheduling is something Jeff is good at. We attended three films each day for eight days. We knew each day whether to eat breakfast in our room, eat breakfast early and have a late lunch that would satisfy us for the day, or eat a larger breakfast supplemented with popcorn and have pick up sushi or sandwich in the evening.

One night we met visiting Wisconsin friends at The Wilde and another night we attended the “after” party at Agave, catered by Ron Moeller. Here’s our rundown for you.

Saturday

Main Meal at Sound Bites: Salmon Piccata and Cobb Salad

Sunday

Breakfast at Pump House: Avocado Toast/ Poached Egg and Poached Eggs Benedict. Late Lunch at India Palace: Tandoori Chicken and House Non-Veg Plate; wine at the Marriott (the restaurant is back in business)

Monday

Breakfast at Secret Garden: Huevos, Chorizo, and Poblano Special and Open-Face Vegetable Omelet. Late snack: Carry out BLT from Rascal

After the show at SPAC: Italian Wedding Cake provided by Lisa Dahl

Tuesday

Breakfast in room, Late Lunch at Steak 89: Steak Bites

Wednesday

Breakfast in the VOC at Red Rock Café (Snow day. We returned to get warmer clothes!): Special of eggs/potatoes/chorizo sauce and veggie omelet. Dinner: Turkey Wraps from Clark’s. After the show at SPAC: Apple Pie (an apple pie baked on stage during the showing of the film “Sensaroma”!)

Thursday

Breakfast at Creekside: Lox and Bagels; Dinner at Rascal at The Wilde (formerly Reds at Sedona Rouge): Dry Smoked Ribs. We did not see “Peace by Chocolate” and therefore missed the chocolate produced and donated by Gayle’s Chocolates (Cottonwood).

Friday

Breakfast in room; Lunch at Senor Bob’s: Bob’s Burger; After Party at Agave: Chicken Piccata, Tenderloin, Mac and Cheese, Salad, Rice Krispie or Lemon Bar.

Saturday

Late breakfast at Judy’s: Hash and Eggs and Eggs Benedict; Dinner: Tuna Sandwiches from Whole Foods

We for the most part made excellent dining choices. The service bar at the high school (SPAC) where most of our evening events were held, sold popcorn, wine, water, and soft drinks, which we could use as fill-ins.

We had a great week and enjoyed dining in Sedona. Suzie even learned a few tricks about pie making. Now, back to VOC reviews as we now have Dellepiane, Colt Grill and Lisa’s Pizza 2 to look forward to.
