The Fit Life: The Upkeep

Happy B Day to me! šŸ˜Š March is simply known as the Magdalenaā€™s B-Day Month. As I successfully cleared March and became even older (and wiser??), I would like to share with you some tips on the upkeep of the 52-yr-old frame of me. Some of the tips made it here because I abide by them. Some of them only because I have that ā€œwishful thinkā€ ability still alive, and I hope that I will abide by those one day (later) in my life. I also believe that to retain the reader audience, the ā€œupkeep tipsā€ of mine should remain highly inspirational, and that it is better if they are easy to follow upon.

OK. So, what about if we start from the notion of a good massage? Yay, I got your attention! Massage is a physical activity which is super beneficial to your body, and you are not even sweating! Your therapist is! Just make sure your daily grind makes you feel entitled to receive a massage and you shall! Lie down on that massage table and relax. All techniques of massage are beneficial to us. Personally, I enjoy some extremely strong deep tissue, sports, myofascial release, or Thai. But several times, I was the happy recipient of a lovely relaxation massage, which was a pure bliss. All massage approaches will benefit your tired body and soul. Massage creates a great sense of relaxation and improves blood flow to the massaged areas. It leaves you with that feeling of being taken care of and spoiled, in a good way! So, the 52-yr-old me says, go for it as often as you can afford! If you like a specific technique and a specific therapist, I feel it is beneficial to stick to them if they are available, as they simply know your body better.

Second, well, if you have not spaced out long enough on that massage table, take some time to meditate. As some of you know, I have a very hard time meditating while sitting and doing nothing physically. For me, the best meditation happens while I jog or hike. But I know many people who can do it, meditate while seated or lying down, even if for a short time. Feeling the air on their body. Hearing the sounds around: the birds, even the trafficā€¦ Being aware and being rooted down.

Third: I get the biggest kick out of any outdoors activity. Be it a swim or a hike or a run. Or when I have a moment to read, I do it on my large patio bed rather than in any enclosed indoor space. I deal all day long with social situations and I talk a lot, so during my hiking or any other relax time, I love to be alone and just space out (refer to the second point above - about meditation in motion).

I have several dear Clients who just love gardening! I can easily relate to how that can be relaxing and beneficial! Right now, I donā€™t have much of any garden in my new build home construction zone, but two houses ā€œagoā€, I remember taking a day off from intensive training to work the weeds in the garden. So relaxing!

I am not even mentioning the ā€œupkeepingā€ activities such as gym visits, restaurant, happy hour fun, calling a friend, making love, caring for our beloved cats and dogs, watching Netflix, or traveling. There are so many ways of doing itā€¦ your way!
