What’s Happening at your Village Library

Jan Marc Quisumbing

Jan Marc Quisumbing

Greetings Villager readers! Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Jan Marc Quisumbing, and as the Program and Marketing Coordinator for both your Sedona Public Library and Sedona Public Library in the Village, I would like to give you an update on current and upcoming programs at the Village Library.

It’s been a busy and fun first five months at the Library. The Village Library is growing, and thriving, and just like our main branch in West Sedona, the Village Library provides many services. We connect patrons with books, movies, and information, and we have Technology Tuesdays with free assistance with your technology questions. We also have Notary Public service for free on Wednesdays. Make appointments by visiting sedonalibrary.org, go to the Resources tab, then click Appointments.

But what makes a library a library isn’t just the free books, Wi-Fi, computer use, the by-donation printing, and access to the newest literary books or Hollywood blockbusters, it’s the programs. Programs at a library are a great way for people to connect with others who may share their interest or a way to open themselves up to new ideas. And we have recently started a couple noteworthy programs at the Village Library.

Just like when a familiar restaurant changes course—say your favorite Italian restaurant switched gears and starts serving to Tex-Mex—the building stays the same, the staff doesn’t change, but the menu is different. Our menu at the Village Library is evolving and, just like at a restaurant, we’re in the process of a soft opening.

Our Village Library’s soft opening of programs started began in May with Story Time with Miss Marcia at 11:15 a.m. on Tuesdays. Marcia’s Story Times have grown in popularity, and we’re glad to bring her talents to the Village.

We also started a Beginner Conversational Spanish group with Jamie Rangel, our Bilingual Outreach Librarian, on Fridays at 3 p.m. These sessions are a great opportunity for true beginners, folks who need a refresher, or travelers headed to a country where Spanish is spoken. The format is fluid, so come on in!

I have received questions about other programs at the Village Library and the new meeting room. We’ve been working hard to get the room up and running with technology and furniture to have it ready as soon as possible. You’ll be the first to know!

It’s an exciting time at the Village Library, and we’re happy to have you along with us for the ride. Don’t hesitate to call about what programs we’ll host in the future. You can visit the SPL in The Village Calendar (under Events) on our website.

Sedona Public Library is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Your gifts can be directed to the Village Library. Visit Sedonalibrary.org/donate. Thanks!
