Roadwork to close lanes on I-17 this week
CAMP VERDE – Anyone planning to drive on Interstate 17 this week may want to leave a little early. Two major projects are expected to close lanes at various locations between Anthem and Flagstaff.
According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, the fiber-optic cable installation between Flagstaff and the Verde Valley is necessitating the closure of the southbound right lane and right shoulder of I-17 from Cornville Road to Arena del Loma Road. That is expected Monday through Thursday, 5 a.m.-5 p.m. The vehicle-width limit will be 14 feet.
At the same time, the northbound lanes will be narrowed to one from the runaway truck ramp to General Crook Trail from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The vehicle-width limit will be 14 feet. The right shoulder will also be closed.
Farther north, the same project will cause the closure of the southbound right shoulder in half-mile increments from Interstate 40 to Stoneman Lake Road from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The northbound right shoulder will be closed in half-mile increments from the McGuireville Rest Area to Stoneman Lake Road during the same time.
Meanwhile, work continues on preparing for the widening I-17 between Anthem and the Sunset Point Rest Area. This week the southbound left should will be closed near Black Canyon City from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday for geotechnical investigation.
Southbound will be narrowed to one lane – left lane closed - through that same area from 7 p.m. Monday to 6 a.m. Tuesday and again from 7 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday.
According to ADOT, no closures or restrictions are scheduled during the Memorial Day weekend.
