Verde Heritage: 1888 United Verde Copper Company leased to W. A. Clark
The United Verde Copper Company smelting works are located at the center right with the Town of Jerome, located down the County Wagon Road to the left. On the steep hillside above the road are the “Azure” (left), “Chrome” (center), and “Eureka” (right) mining claims and the hoist for the “Wade Hampton” claim (lower right edge). The offices and boarding houses are on the lower left. Erwin Baer, of Mitchell & Baer in Prescott, photographed the mines, smelter, and Jerome during the summer of 1884. (Jerome Historical Society)
