The community is invited to a heartwarming and historically significant event hosted by Coffee with a Vet, where Diane Phelps Budden, renowned author, and historian, will guide us through the incredible love story of a housewife and her sailor husband during World War II. This event takes offers a poignant look at a loving couple's shared immigrant experiences.

Diane's discovery and preservation of more than 500 letters exchanged between the couple offer us a glimpse into a time when love knew no boundaries, and wartime challenges were met with unwavering devotion. These letters weave a beautiful romantic story with real historical events on both the home front and the battlefront.

While stories of servicemen during World War II have been widely told, the experiences of the resolute war wives, who played a significant role in shaping the outcome of the war and the nation, have remained largely untold. Many of these women stayed at home to raise children while their husbands fought overseas, a group whose stories have been underrepresented in World War II literature.

"Dear Hubby of Mine" focuses on this often-overlooked group, providing a voice for the war wives whose stories deserve to be celebrated.

The heart of this event lies in the enduring romance captured in the letters. However, it also offers an intriguing look at the 1940s America, a nation shaped by wartime conditions and the changing roles of women during the era. The women of the time charted new roles during the war, leading to new freedoms and eventually bringing about major societal changes.

Attendees will have the opportunity to relive this era through shared remembrances, creating a bridge between the past and the present.
