CAMP VERDE – Oct. 7-9 is the Wopila Gathering of Nations event at Jackpot Ranch in Camp Verde. The weekend is scheduled as a native cultural, spiritual, arts, music, dance festival and conference. The gathering is comprised of many indigenous people contributing from at least 15 native nations. It will feature native/indigenous cultural leaders, including Oglala Lakota Chief Henry Red Cloud, and chairpeople from different native nations, as well as Santee Dakota Yuwipi Medicine Man Jim White Wakute’/ “Moves Like Thunder”/ Wakiyaniipiciye , ancestral and cosmic star nation elders, spirit and creational speakers/presenters and storytellers. This year’s gathering will have fine artists, silversmiths, carvers/doll/Katchina and dress makers, singers, flutists, drummers, dancers, with Apache Nation, Ga’an, Mountain Spirit “Crown Dancers” and Middle Verde, Yavapai-Apache “Bird Singers & Dancers.” Jackpot Ranch is at 2025 Reservation Loop Road, Camp Verde, on ancestral Yavapai-Apache land, next to the Yavapai-Apache Nation. Friday - 1:30-9 p.m. Saturday – 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday – 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
