2019 Colonel's Daughter

Aspen Oothoudt, 15, hugs her niece, 3-year-old Kamber Ashley, after being named 2019 Colonel’s Daughter on Sunday, Sept. 29 at Fort Verde State Historic Park in Camp Verde. A panel of out-of-town judges selected Aspen for her horsemanship, poise and personality. According to Colonel’s Daughter rules, contestants must be between the ages of 13 and 18, or still attending a full-time high school. Oothoudt was one of five contestants in the Colonel’s Daughter competition. Aspen was joined in the competition by 17-year-old Elizabeth Crofutt, 14-year-old Aubrey Mulcaire, 16-year-old Kaylee Barker and 14-year-old Victoria Black. For the second consecutive year, Elizabeth finished in second place. Victoria finished in third place. Each of the contestants will ride in the Oct. 12 Fort Verde Days parade. VVN/Bill Helm
